Weight Loss Isn’t Just About You (Part 1)

SHOW NOTES: Episode 13

Over the next few episodes, my good friend Amanda Kaldor and I are going to be chatting about how weight loss is not just about you. This is going to be part 1 of that today. In part 1 of this episode, we’re going to dive into one of the most impactful ways that weight loss isn’t just about you, it affects your children as well.

So, weight loss isn’t just about you. That isn’t meant to be a judgment either. It is meant to be a motivation. Weight loss affects so many things – including our children.

When we are in that diet culture mentality and constantly stepping on the scale and saying that we need to lose weight, our kids see that. So instead of using negative verbiage, we have the opportunity to turn that around now and use empowering verbiage with our kids. We need to be careful in the words we use with our kids so that they grow up to talk positive about their bodies and the foods they eat.

Reframing the way we think about things and talk about things is so important. When our kids see us exercise, we explain to them that it makes us feel better. We say things like we love our bodies and that’s why I’m doing this. It’s never tied to weight loss. I’m building strength or I want feel really good for the day.

If you are not teaching your kids about healthy habits, and you are not talking to them about having a good relationship with food, you’re being selfish. It’s not just about you. It is about setting them up for success. It’s so important to teach them about these healthy habits. It’s important to pour into yourself, learn as much as you can about becoming healthy and fueling your body properly and treating its as the temple that it was designed to be. Then pass that on to your kids.

Your body is a temple and we should treat it that way so we can go out and fulfill our greater purpose. Instilling this into your kids allows them to go fulfill their greater purpose too.

If you’re a mom, one of your purposes is to lead your children and be an example for your children. I want to reiterate this is not meant to put judgement on ourselves as mothers. Let’s not judge ourselves or beat ourselves up. Let’s use it as fuel and change.

MORE ABOUT FEED YOURSELF: HEALTHY HABITS FOR THE MIND, BODY, & SOUL PODCAST:

Feed Yourself: Healthy Habits for the Mind, Body, & Soul is all about learning the key components of overall health based on Biblical principles. When most people think about getting in shape and becoming “healthy”, they immediately think about their physical health: losing weight, making exercise a priority, possessing flexibility and endurance, and remaining disease free. But Scripture makes it clear that physical wellness is not the only area that impacts health. In order to be TRULY healthy, we have to focus on four areas: spiritual health, emotional health, mental health, and physical health.

This podcast dives deep into the tools and head knowledge you will need in order to create lasting results, but it also looks at the element that truly ties it all together – the heart knowledge that incorporates faith in God in this area of our lives and how to apply it when things get tough (and they will!).

I wanted to create a space to let you know you are never alone on this journey. Through years of experience in doing everything the WRONG way, I am here to share my journey of getting healthy from the inside out – ditching the restriction and diet culture and truly learning to treat my body as the temple God intended it to be.

Grab a cup of coffee and join me as I discuss healthy habits to incorporate in your daily life to propel you forward and FEED YOURSELF on your journey to health in all areas: mind, body, and soul!
